February Update

We hope all are having a great month of February!

Have you done anything special to
celebrate and honor Black History Month?
We are working on an important local history project
-- check it out at:

or

We are working closely with the folks at the County Fair Board, to try to track down the missing history documentation and pictures for the years 1949 to 1963.  Unfortunately, Down County practiced segregation for many years, and for these years, there were two county fairs:  the "white" county fair, and the "black" or "colored" county fair, as they were self-named.  We are helping drive the effort to get those folks who worked and participated in the Black County Fairs to be honored and recognized for their work and contributions.  At a minimum, we want to see the annual County Fair Catalog updated to include ALL of the past presidents of the County Fair, to have ALL of the past Queens of Tolerance proudly displayed by portrait in the County Fair auditorium, where the ladies from the Black Fair are all missing.  The President of the County Fair Board, John Richards, has already edited their web page and are very willing to add in all of the missing information asap.  Personally, we are very excited to get to help in this effort, and are anxious to see a successful editing of the county's history.  Further, we hope that this healing project will also help heal some of the residue from this horrid practice from the past history of the county.
Let us all celebrate ALL of our past residents of Down County!
Pass it on!

As far as our fun projects of Tie Dye go, we shifted gears and have been more focused on our "regular jobs" for the moment (semester), but will be gearing up to make more fun tie dye around April, when the weather gets a little warmer.
We can still take special requests, but there is a wait time (we can discuss, case-by-case) at the moment.

We did get nice compliments on the itty bitty t-shirts that were routed to Indonesia in December as Christmas gifts -- that made us smile! Seems that the little folks don't like to take their coveted new colorful shirts off, even long enough to wash so they can wear it again, lol!

Headed back to Fenton Street Market

Fenton Street Market, located in Silver Spring, Maryland

http://www.fentonstreetmarket.com/

We will be there on Saturday, August 18th, from 10 am to 4 pm.

Hope to see you there!

Bed sheets!

One of our new customers, a college student, asked us to tie dye her new twin-sized (stretchy) cotton bed sheets.  While we've tie dyed sheets before, playing around, this was a first time doing this type of cotton textured sheet, and a set at that.  These are the colors and patterns she chose, and we are very happy with the results!

Some New T-Shirts

These are a few of our new crop of t-shirts this year.  We still have the usual rainbows and other regularly requested colors and designs, but we did add more black to our collection.  We also have added the peace sign to our regular stock.

Enjoy!

(Can you tell we like the lime and the black combo?!)

Our latest new artwork, the sun and earth!
Keep your eyes out for the rest of the earth and sun series!

Now this one...we really like this one a lot!
 Patriotic AND full of Love!

We have a whole babies series, this one is just so eye-catching

 Oversized (long) t-shirt/dress -- SOLD!

This one is a popular color combo with the kiddos...

Our nephew did this one, what an interesting ripple pattern!

A first attempt at a mandala, for the repeating pattern effect

Sometimes the t-shirts don't come out as we planned or we just don't like them, so they get to be "re-done".  This one was in the re-do pile, but instead my sister tried out a new process to add a color ink applique to the top, which fixed some of the problems with this shirt.  The possibilities for other small additions to other shirts is very exciting!

First attempt at an "arrow", looks like it needs more color saturation on the next try.

Also a first attempt at "eyeballs".
Here are two different folding techniques, we're not sure which we like the best.

Here is the often-requested guitar.  Not bad, we'll see about doing more in the near future.

We had a family special order matching t-shirts, for when they go to Kings Dominion this summer.
If you see a whole crew of folks wearing them, please tell them we say hi!

Thanks for browsing.  Feel free to look back into other blog updates that have other patterns.
You can also catch us on Facebook.

We Loved Fenton Street Market!

The Fenton Street Market was very welcoming to us and the other 65 vendor booths that participated!  There was a variety of items, something for everyone!  We particularly loved the recycled stamps and maps, made into refrigerator magnets, rings, and more by Juanita's Adventures, as well as the magnificent glass art by HomeGrown Glass Art!  There were recycled bicycles for sale, clever silk-screened t-shirts, and just about anything else you could think of, including a train set that was setup "just for fun".  Our summer is booking up, but we are considering returning on
August 18th.

Our booth all setup, we forgot the table cloths!

The Civic Center was also had a Health Fair, and a play area for the kids with oversized checker, chess, and connect 4 games.  This is where Chris wanted to play all afternoon!

The luggage carrier all loaded up with 250+ tie dyed items, mostly shirts!

Schedule Birthday Parties Early!

We also do birthday or special event tie-dye parties!
We provide the supplies and dyes, you supply the kids (or adults) and a few hours, and we help them make the designs they want and guide the dying process.  We have volunteered for a teen event at St. Mary's Public Libraries last Fall, worked with 1st grade classrooms of children, two day care facilities and various private birthday parties.  The best part is when the children get to show off to others that awesome shirt "that I made!" as they tell others about the process and proudly wear the outcomes!

Contact us if you are interested in reserving a date for a personal tie-dye party!

Park Rock Concert in California, MD

We had planned to setup on St. Andrews Church Road for a final weekend on August 28th, but it looks like Hurricane Irene might have other ideas.  We'll keep it on a tentative basis, but we don't work outside in hurricanes!  If you were planning on doing some of your own tie dying with us, or want to purchase any of our t-shirts, plan a party, or place an order, please email us at YesVirginiaCreations@gmail.com

Next on the agenda is a 2-day concert in California,  Maryland:  Park Rock Fest!

We plan to see a lot of our local teenagers at this event, and maybe you will be there also!

Saturday - Sunday
September 3rd & 4th

We do plan to be at a few more events before the end of the year, and will post that information shortly.

Update:  Not well-matched to our product, taste in music, or lifestyle.  Sorry if we offended anyone, but we had to leave early on Sunday.  Not as much foot traffic at this even, as was advertised, and there were other internal issues.  We will not be doing this event again in the future.
